The Ellgars of Pennybrook cocker spaniel kennel is owned by Ms Ellen Harman.

Ellen first owned a cocker spaniel in 1972 and started serious showing and breeding in 1983 with Dancing Black Peppercorn of Pennybrook. Mating this bitch to Quettadene Emblem produced Pennybrook Dance In The Dark. This bitch was then mated to Judena Early Bird and produced Pennybrook Pressman RCC. Early in 2000 tragedy struck when Ellen’s only remaining breeding bitch was unable to produce a litter and on veterinary advice she had to be spayed.

The creation of Ellgars
At this time Ellen met Gary Nicolas-Steele (Kalrizienne) as members of North of England Cocker Spaniel Society. They decided to start travelling to shows together,as they lived quite near to each other, Ellen in Oxenhope, West Yorkshire and Gary in Preston, Lancashire.

They approached Mrs Anne Webster (Asquannes) regarding purchasing a puppy. Their patient wait was eventually rewarded as they were offered Asquannes Giselle.

As you can see both Ellen and Gary had their own kennel affix. They joined forces in 2000 with the affix of Ellgars, an anagram of their names and the name of one England’s finest classical composers. A fitting tribute for the English cocker spaniel.

Together they had great success with Asquanne's Giselle with Ellgars, Bencleuch's Bestman for Pennybrook, SH CH Bitcon Seashore Around Ellgars, Dandyjans Biscotti for Kalrizienne. From January 2005 they decided to disolve the partnership but continue to use the Ellgars affix, separately. 'Ellgars Of Pennybrook' now signifies the joining of the past, present and the future of Ellen's kennel.
